About James

About James

Only Footprints Norway is built around one simple idea — that the best way to experience a place is with someone who actually knows it.

I'm James Cooper, an English-speaking guide based in Stavanger. I've walked, hiked, sailed and driven across Rogaland guiding visitors through everything from Preikestolen in winter snow to the back streets of Gamle Stavanger on a quiet morning.

Every route on this site has been personally explored. Every story has been researched, tested on real guests and refined through real guiding experience. The digital maps are built from the same knowledge — not scraped from the internet, but mapped on foot.

I work with small groups and private guests who want something more personal than a coach tour and more informed than a self-guided app. If you want local knowledge, honest recommendations and a guide who will adapt the day around you — that's what Only Footprints Norway is.

  • English-speaking guide based in Stavanger
  • Cruise tourism experience — Nordic Gateway AS
  • Active SkogSprett outdoor partnership
  • Tourism platform and digital map development
  • Rogaland-focused local expertise
Guest Reviews

What Guests Say

A selection of voices from cruise guests, independent travellers and private groups across recent seasons.

James knew every corner of Stavanger. He took us somewhere we'd never have found on our own — a quiet viewpoint above the city with almost no one there. Worth every krone.

Sarah & Mark, UK
Royal Caribbean, June 2024

We had four hours off the ship and James made every minute count. Preikestolen hike was incredible and he timed it perfectly around our departure.

Familie Müller, Germany
AIDA Cruises, August 2024

Private walking tour of Gamle Stavanger with James. Knowledgeable, relaxed and genuinely passionate about the place. We left knowing we'd actually seen the real city.

Caroline T., USA
Celebrity Cruises, July 2024

Bought the digital map before arrival and used it all day independently. Discovered Øvre Holmegate, the cathedral quarter and two spots we'd have completely missed. Excellent value.

David R., Australia
Independent traveller, May 2024

James arranged a private fjord day for our group of six. Perfect mix of scenery and local knowledge. He's the kind of guide who makes you feel like a guest, not a tourist.

Gruppo Rossi, Italy
MSC Cruises, September 2024

Reviews collected from guided tours and digital map purchases across 2023–2024. James responds personally to every booking enquiry.
